Andrew West Appointed Chair of AMOSSHE
Dr Andrew West, Director of Student Services at the University of Sheffield, has been elected Chair of AMOSSHE, the UK Student Services Organisation.
Andrew has shown significant commitment and expertise in student services at the University and beyond, by playing an active role in AUA governance and chairing the peer support group for AMOSSHE’s national Value and Impact project. He will now take up his post of Chair of AMOSSHE from 1 September 2010 for two years. As Chair he will inform and support the leaders of student services around the country while representing, advocating and promoting the student experience.
At the University, Andrew directs one of the largest HE student services departments in England. Just this year, the University was recognised for its ‘Outstanding Student Services Team’ in the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards.
Andrew is well placed to take on the role of Chair of AMOSSHE. He has served on the Executive Group of AMOSSHE for two years, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the AUA, and a member of the ARC professional development committee. Over the last two years Andrew chaired the steering group which led to the development of the AUA CPD framework.
Upon hearing the news Andrew said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair at a very exciting time for the organisation, as we embark on our national project focussed on the value and impact of student support services in the HE sector.
“The project has attracted considerable support and interest in the sector and I feel sure it will provide valuable tools for our members and help us improve services to students.”
Simon Wright, the outgoing Chair of AMOSSHE and Head of Student Services at the University of Exeter, said: “Student services make a significant contribution to the student experience. To fully appreciate this, we must understand the value and impact of our members’ work. Andrew’s close involvement with the Value and Impact project make him an excellent choice for Chair of AMOSSHE, the Student Services Organisation. He embodies the values of AMOSSHE, and I am confident that he will lead the organisation from strength to strength.”
